NEWS! From the darkroom into your mobile phones: ART SMART makes Wawi Navarroza artwork available for download as MMS for the first time

Smart Communications and the Ateneo Art Gallery launch Art Smart, an innovative service for the 2006 Ateneo Art Awards, bringing modern and contemporary Philippine art to a wider audience.

During the exhibit run of Outbound: The 2006 Ateneo Art Awards at the North Court, Power Plant Mall from 1 - 7 August 2006, Smart subscribers may vote for the participating artist of their choice. The winner of the Art Smart Texter's Choice Award will be announced during the Awards Ceremony at Rockwell Tent, 8 August, 6:30 pm.

When a subscriber votes for an artist for the first time, he/she will get an MMS image of the artist's artwork on exhibit with accompanying text elaborating on the finer points of the work for added appreciation. The first vote will give the artist five (5) points and each succeeding SMS vote will earn the artist one (1) point. Subscribers may vote for more than one artist and vote as many times as he/she wishes.

A subscriber will be charged P15 when voting for a particular artist for the first time and P2.50 for each succeeding SMS vote. The artist receiving the vote will receive a royalty for every successful MMS download.

To vote for a particular artist, subscribers must key in ART and send to 299.

The participating artists and how to vote for them are as follows:

To vote for: Maya Muñoz, With Love and Squalor key in ART 1 and send to 299.

To vote for: Rodel Tapaya, Bayan ng Ginhaw key in ART 2 and send to 299.

To vote for: Mideo Cruz, Banquet key in ART 3 and send to 299.

To vote for: Jevijoe Vitug, Lessons from the Masters key in ART 7 and send to 299.

To vote for: Anton del Castillo, Covenant key in ART 8 and send to 299.

To vote for: Marina Cruz, Kambal key in ART 9 and send to 299.

To vote for: Wawi Navarroza, The Coercive Silver Spoon key in ART 10 and send to 299.

To vote for: Jay Ticar, Broken Table of Measures key in ART 12 and send to 299.


Art Smart MMS downloads of the artists' works will also be available during the exhibition run at the Ateneo Art Gallery from 16 August - 21 September 2006.

The 2006 Ateneo Art Awards is presented by the Ateneo Art Gallery, Smart Infinity, Rockwell Land, Power Plant Mall, Metro Society and Y Style with the support of the Australian Embassy - Manila.
